2022 Golden Award given to Robert C. Greenstreet, PhD, RIBA, Intl. Assoc. AIA

The AIA Wisconsin 2022 Golden Award has been awarded to Robert C. Greenstreet, PhD, RIBA, Intl. Assoc. AIA, for the outstanding leadership that he has provided to AIA Wisconsin.

The purpose of the Golden Award is to recognize an individual architect who has performed most distinguished leadership and service to AIA Wisconsin over an extended period of time, such services exceeding those expected in any official capacity, and by leadership has advanced the cause of our profession and provided an inspiration to his/her fellow practitioners. Established in 1986, the Golden Award is the highest award AIA Wisconsin can bestow on one of its members.

Bob’s contributions are best summed up by the words in his nomination: “By anyone’s estimation, successfully leading the only accredited school of architecture in our state for nearly 30 years would be enough to clear that bar. However, Dr. Robert Greenstreet has exceeded the Golden Award criteria by also contributing to the profession of architecture in Wisconsin through his active participation and leadership in AIA, his writing, civic engagement as a citizen architect, and professional practice.”

Bob has been a sustained contributor to AIA Wisconsin since he arrived in Milwaukee in 1981, volunteering on committees, attending board meetings, and serving as a liaison between the school and the profession. He has participated in all facets of our organization serving on the editorial board for Wisconsin Architect magazine, the board of directors of the Wisconsin Architects Foundation (WAF), and as a member of the AIA Wisconsin Continuing Education Task Force.

In addition to the role of Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Bob has served as Chair of the Milwaukee Planning Commission, held the position of City of Milwaukee Director of Planning and Design, was the Chair of City Development, and has held several Milwaukee Mayoral Task Force appointments. In 2013, Bob was awarded the prestigious Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education presented jointly by the AIA and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA).  And although this national recognition is important, perhaps his greatest contribution to our society is the career guidance and mentoring that he has provided for many of our AIA Wisconsin leaders. His wide-reaching contributions have bettered the society and the architectural profession as a whole.

Congratulations to Bob Greenstreet, Intl. Assoc. AIA, on receiving the 2022 AIA Wisconsin Golden Award.  He will be celebrated at the 2022 Design Awards Gala on September 16, 2022, in Milwaukee, WI.
